As you know, our entrepreneurs get to learn from South Africa’s top business minds & industry experts. Week 9 of #ThreadsBySB was all about Market & Business Development. Meet one of our guest speakers, Michele Venter-Davis, Vega Senior Navigator who share some key insights on branding.
Why are you excited about #ThreadsBySB?
The future development of our economy rests in the hands of entrepreneurs. An ‘import’ mindset does not serve the growth of South Africa, and entrepreneurs will truly uplift our country and communities. As small businesses grow, so do job opportunities.
What are you expecting from the entrepreneurs?
Passion, passion and more passion – coupled with solid business sense and an understanding that one’s brand has to have purpose and meaning in order to create consumer resonance and build equity over time.
How do you feel you can support them?
By assisting them to align their own personal brands with their commercial brands to achieve consistency and values that the target markets can identify with.
What does leadership mean to you?
True leadership means inspiring others to take ownership of adding value to the business and all its stakeholders – to their lives, to their businesses and to their futures.

What is your favourite business quote?
“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. And what you do simply proves what you believe. ” Simon Sinek
Which book would you recommend to entrepreneurs? And why?
South Africa’s Greatest Entrepreneurs by Moki Makura. South Africans should embrace their own success stories rather than looking to the USA and Europe. Entrepreneurship is inherent in our culture. It simply needs to be nurtured and respected.
What is the best business advice you have received?
Do nothing without research. You seldom know what you think you know.
What advice do you have for the 12 Threads participants?
Decide now what you stand for. Why you do what you do. And why it matters to your stakeholders. Build a brand that will make a difference to their lives and the financial rewards will follow.
